Overview:

THIS INTERNSHIP IS BASED AT THE RICHFIELD FIELD OFFICE – BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT. The BLM Richfield Field Office managed within the Color Country District is located in Central Utah and covers five counties- Sanpete, Sevier, Piute, Wayne and Garfield. This field office includes the Henry Mountains, which is a well-known point of reference in southeast Utah, reaching almost 12,000 feet at the top of Mt. Ellen. The renewable resources division of the field office is responsible for the administration of the wildlife and fisheries, soil, water and air, forestry, sensitive plants, and range programs. The diversity of resources and issues surrounding them provide many opportunities for interdisciplinary and inter-agency projects. Recent projects stretch across many disciplines, including the development of grazing management systems, fuels treatments, wildlife improvement projects, recreation projects, and invasive species control.

Responsibilities:

The BLM Richfield Field Office (RFO) has 2 Wildlife Technician Internship positions available that will be hired for the summer (May – September) field season. The selected technician will participate as an interdisciplinary team member conducting fieldwork for the wildlife monitoring program throughout the field office. A person working in this position can expect to apply their education in various settings, learning on-the-ground field applications, wildlife inventory and monitoring procedures, and practical application of the data for the BLM. The technician should expect to learn about a broad range of responsibilities and issues associated with the general wildlife and threatened and endangered species management programs.

Qualifications:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working in an outdoor setting independently
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Applicants who possess these skills and who are pursuing a degree in fields related to Wildlife Biology or Natural Resource will be given the greatest consideration.
